Do you have a lot of clutter?

Having clutter often comes from not being able to let go of things. Sometimes the clutter takes up so much room there is no where to sit or to eat.  Have you ever wondered if this is a problem for you?

There are some questions to ask yourself if you think you may have a clutter problem. You may want to ask yourself…How much of my home is cluttered with possessions, include hallways, living rooms, bedrooms, closets, bathrooms, tables chairs and floor space.

You may also ask yourself how much difficulty you have throwing things away or how upset you get when you try to do so. Does the clutter in your home cause you distress? Have you stopped inviting people to your home because of the clutter? Are you afraid to let go of things because you think that someday you might need them? If you have a problem with clutter, there are professionals who can help.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy can help you to explore the emotions you have about wanting to hold on to things that you have not used in many years. By processing these emotions, and understanding the fear and sadness associated with letting go of them, someone with a clutter problem can begin to slowly get some control of their home.

Helping our residents manage clutter is just one of the many treatment programs that we offer at Amber Lantern. Contact us to learn more about how we can help you or a loved one leave a more independent and fulfilling life.
