San Antonio Based Housing Programs For People Living With Serious Mental Illness

Our Housing Programs

Amber Lantern currently offers three paths for residency at our homes including two state funded programs and a private pay room, board & medication assistance option. The best choice for each client will depend on their individual situation and ability to meet certain eligibility requirements.

State Funded Programs

Amber Lantern’s State Funded housing programs offer a comprehensive approach to treatment of Serious Mental Health Issues (SMIs). Our supervised living homes provide a stable and supportive place for residents to live while they recieve treatment and other services from a variety of mental health professionals. These programs are provided at no cost to participants, but they do come with specific eligibility requirements.

HCBS-AMH

Home and Community Based Services — Adult Mental Health, is a program run by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. It was created to help individuals living with SMIs who have a history of arrests, emergency room visits, or state hospital admissions. HCBS-AMH provides comprehensive care to participants who meet strict eligibility requirements. Please click here to learn more.

Step To Recovery

Step To Recovery is focused specifically on achieving better long term treatment outcomes for clients who have been discharged from the State Hospital system, but are not eligible for more restrictive programs like HCBS-AMH. This is a brand new program and details on the referral process are still being finalized. Please contact the Amber Lantern team if you would like to receive more information on Step To Recovery as it becomes available.

Private Pay & Self-Supported Residency

Amber Lantern is committed to serving as many people living with SMI’s as possible in Bexar County, TX. To support that goal prospective residents who do not qualify for a state funded program may still be able to live at one of our supervised living homes through a private pay or self-supported arrangement. This usually involves a mix of familiar support, government benefits, and income earned through employment.

Services provided for private pay residents:

  • Lodging in a shared bedroom

  • Three meals a day (and snacks) coordinated by our Resident Assistants

  • Assistance in taking medication

  • Participation in Amber Lantern house activities, events, and field trips
