What is Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Psychosis?
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based practice to help individuals with psychosis examine evidence for their beliefs.
What is Psychosis?
Psychosis refers to a number of symptoms that are common in behavioral health conditions. One symptoms of psychosis is hallucinations; hearing voices or seeing things when there is nothing around to explain it. For example, someone may see a person in a green hat everywhere they go.
Another symptoms of psychosis is having beliefs that are not supported by evidence. For example, believing that someone is poisoning your food when that is not happening.
How Cognitive Therapy for Psychosis helps
CBT for psychosis helps individuals to examine evidence and do experiments to see whether or not their views can be supported by evidence and helps them to develop strategies to cope with voices or visions that are not completely eliminated by taking medication. CBT is practiced at Amber Lantern’s San Antonio based facilities and is a very important adjunct to taking medication.
