What Good Is Meditation
Mediation is a practice of deep breathing and relaxation that helps to control anxiety, reduces stress, increases awareness of the moment and promotes feelings of well-being.
There are many different types of mediation practice. Mediation can involve deep breathing. For example, taking in a deep breath to a count of 4, holding the breath for a count of four and exhaling for a count of 4. The person then repeats this process over and over. If thoughts come up the individual just watches them pass like a cloud passing over a mountain peak.
Progressive muscle relaxation involves scanning the body in a systematic way and releasing any tension as each part of the body becomes the focus.
Mantra based meditation is the repletion of the same phrase or a “mantra” over and over. The goal of meditation is to focus on one thing such as breathing, a particular part of the body or one phrase. If the attention is drawn to something else, the person gently brings it back to the one focus.
Regular practice of meditation provides many health benefits including reduced blood pressure, reduction in stress related digestive problems and boosting the immune system. Begin practice everyday with only 5 minutes each morning and evening. It is more important to practice regularly than to have longer sessions at first. This will help you to develop the habit. There are many websites and apps that help individuals practice meditation and even remind you at the same time each day. What an easy way to promote your health and well-being. All you have to do is breathe!
