Resident Assistant job summary

Amber Lantern operates three supervised residential living facilities that are dedicated to helping our residents live the fullest, most rewarding lives possible. Resident Assistants help Amber Lantern’s clients with daily activities, healthcare management and socialization. We’re currently seeking to add to our growing team. Successful candidates will look forward to the opportunity to engage with our residents in an enriching environment that fosters each resident’s unique level of independence. We’re looking for motivated individuals who can take initiative in creating new activities for our residents and work cooperatively with the rest of our team to ensure all resident’s needs are being met and that they are receiving proper care.

Resident Assistant responsibilities

• Provide our residents with assistance as they accomplish daily tasks, including reminders for personal hygiene, dressing and grooming to train residents in daily self-care practices

• Provide our residents with assistance with meal preparation

• Provide our residents with assistance as they accomplish daily tasks such as personal laundry and care of their living quarters to train residents household-care practices

• Provide our residents with assistance in scheduling medical appointments and transportation

• Maintain all care records in accordance with company policy

• Document, report, and review residents’ daily progress, needs, medical issues, and behaviors in accordance with company policy.

• Communicate problems, concerns or issues to house manager as needed

• Oversee that all residents take their medication as directed by their health care providers

• Build rapport with residents by establishing personal connections and showing interest in their lives

• Accompany residents on community outings

• Respond to any safety or medical issues and document them properly

• Lead daily group and individual activities for entertainment

• Converse with residents to reinforce positive behaviors and to promote social interaction

Resident Assistant skills and qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required

• Must be at least 21 years of age

• Food Handlers Permit (or willingness to obtain one) required

• Current and valid driver’s license and minimum liability insurance required

• Ability to calmly and repetitively model appropriate behavior in difficult or challenging situations required

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both residents and team

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and oral correspondence

• Experience working in a residential care facility preferred

• Experience working with individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness preferred

• Previous experience caring for children or adults preferred.

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger; handle; reach with arms and hands; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. Must be able to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds in order to assist in life skills. Specific vision abilities may include close vision; color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Exposure to outside weather conditions while working with residents. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.
