Moving Out — When Residents Graduate to Independent Living
Amber Lantern started September off with a proud if not somewhat bittersweet moment. A long time resident, Ms. T., is moving on to live independently in an apartment of her own. This is a big deal for Ms. T. and the Amber Lantern staff who have cheered her along through her treatment and career progress over the years.
Amber Lantern’s most important mission is to provide a safe and comfortable place for our residents to live while they receive services through their treatment providers, but we are also dedicated to equipping them with the skills that they will need to eventually live independently. This includes the development of daily routines, the implementation of personal hygiene habits, and growing their confidence to seek competitive employment.
Over the last couple years Ms. T. has been hired by several employers. She started out working in the fast food industry, and eventually found a new gig that allowed her to work from home at Amber Lantern providing customer service over the phone. Her career development provided an income stream that allowed her to be approved for her own apartment. She will be missed by Amber Lantern’s staff, but we are all proud of her accomplishment!
