Motivation and Engagement Therapy

Motivation and Engagement therapy (referred to as MOVE) promotes social, leisure, and independent living for those with negative symptoms of schizophrenia. MOVE uses behavioral activation (cues like checklists, voice alarms, and placement of belongings) to cue and sequence important adaptive behaviors including hygiene, taking regular medication and taking care of living quarters. MOVE encourages social interaction through work on identifying the emotions of others and working to express emotion so that other know how you feel. MOVE works to increase leisure activities and build skills.

Continued engagement in the community is important to the process of recovery in serious mental illness. Planning and attending activities around town such as free exercise, festivals, car shows, faith-based activities and self-help programs keep individuals engaged and on the move. Amber Lantern staff works to encourage this engagement with different programing and outings each month. Our residents are on the MOVE!!
